«A feestrok, or celebration skirt, is a patchwork that was specially made to celebrate the liberation of the Netherlands from German occupation at the end of World War Two. This particular type of skirt is also known as a bevrijdingsrok (liberation skirt), levensrok (life skirt) or oranjerok (orange skirt). (…) The skirt, or feestrok, was intended to reflect the diversity, unity and rebuilding of the Netherlands after the war.»

Esta forma tan significativa de utilizar tejidos usados, o de segunda mano, es solo una más de las que se pueden ver en el último número de la revista Selvedge. En lugares tan distantes como Bengala, Jamaica o las Islas Británicas, resulta curiosa esta costumbre de «reciclar» telas para crear productos dotados de un sentido histórico especial.
